Bill Belichick Has Gone Against Everything I Thought I Believed In As A Patriots Fan

There are some rules you will pick up being a Patriots fan

#1. Better to trade a player a year too early rather than a year too late

#2. You don’t pay player for what they have done, you pay them for what you think they will

#3. No man is an island and everyone is replaceable (expect Tom Brady)

And finally…

#4. You don’t draft skill positions in the first round

Bill Belichick is a man that will always keep you guessing and he sure does even 19 years after he took over.

I never thought I’d see the day where he took a running back in the first round and I sure as hell never thought I’d see a wide receiver be our first round selection.

That is just what I have known as a Patriots fan. We don’t take the sexy positions but instead we take the ones we need and that’s why we are coming off our 6th Super Bowl victory. It’s no fun to see a guard taken in the first round but we can suffer through that in April to raise the Lombardi in February.

In the history of the draft in the 21st century, there is only one team that hasn’t taken a receiver in the first round. That would be Bill Belichick’s Patriots. We have gone 19 years receiver free when it comes to day one in the draft.

Now I can see this getting taken the wrong way real fast, I will never we shouldn’t have taken Sony, in fact I wanted him in New England dating back to his sophomore year at Georgia. I am just adjusting to Bill doing what I thought was completely off limits for this franchise.

So with that being said, we have a new receiver in New England. His name is N’Keal Harry from Arizona State. He is a strong, physical receiver that the Patriots have been looking to find for a while.

Even after all that I said about how I never thought we’d take a wide out in the first 32, I have to say I love this pick. I think when it comes to receiver this was one of the best options. He is the perfect kind of receiver but can actually run routes and isn’t just a physical specimen worth taking a gamble on. Like I said, this is the first receiver Belichick has drafted in the first round. If you don’t think this kids gonna ball you don’t know how we operate.

I will put my hand up and say I was wrong. Bill did what I thought he never would. I’ve always said I will trust Bill Belichick with my life. It’s my bio on twitter for a reason. The other rule you learn being a New England sports fan is this,
